lofty goals.

some people may be discouraged at the idea of having to "stick" their bedroom in an upstairs attic. whoever is sleeping in these beds clearly have a better outlook on life - they have made these into some enviable respites.

back to basics

with this amazing fall weather, i need windows. desperately.
these are window treatment ideas from bhg.
if you have outdated curtain fabric or old curtains don't fit your windows, cut and sew them into panel-style window shades with rod pockets. tension rods hold the shades in place and make them easy to switch out. i love the baseboards and low table under the window.

this is such a great solution for us apartment-dwellers who love built-in architectural features like window seats - and bookcases! place a bookcase on either side of the window, put a toybox in between, put a cushion on top, and use a bright roman shade!

these curtains were hung from a curtain rod installed several inches above the top of the window so they barely brush the floor. or you can have them bunch at the bottom for a more luxurious look - those amazing dark wood floors certainly help! i love the symmetry with the panels on the other side of the bed. and the color scheme and mixing patterns. looks like i just love this room - which is surprising considering i usually like a cozy rug.

these curtains started with plain purchased panels - you can add the ruffle yourself!

coffee and a pastry on a terrace a few thousand feet above sea level on the amalfi coast. wouldn't that be lovely?

don't bump your head

i love the idea of an unconventional headboard - even more so if i could make it myself. it can truly dictate the feel of a room and is therefore the ideal decorating tool. here are a few that i like... other ideas?

best way to hide a mess?

fast food restaurants have known for years that the best way to hide messes is through multi-colored carpets (it always helps that they are frequently the same colors that are most likely to be spilled - red, yellow, and brown). it looks like that same concept is being adopted when it comes to kitchen backsplashes as well - with the fortunate variation on color. i think i like the look, especially in an otherwise simple kitchen, of a bright, somewhat-busy backsplash. what do you think?

sigh.

if you look up the word vacation in the dictionary, this place should be pictured.
look at the view.

what an incredible, rustic bathroom.
love the architectural elements - the exposed beams and window panes
copious amounts of billowing white fabric is a must for any to-die-for vacation spot

trying to visualize how a room will come together is tough enough in your own head - nevertheless when trying to explain it to someone else. while confronting this exact challenge this weekend, i found an amazing tool from eq3 - the room builder! it is incredibly easy to use and completely customizable and free!
